I am trying to glue a ribbon down my son’s suit pants (to make a costume military dress uniform) using permanent fabric glue. But it seems to soak through the ribbon and stain it. Will the stain disappear as it dries? What is a good method of gluing ribbon on without staining? I would sew it, but the cuff is too small for my machine.

  1. You may be using too much glue. It should dry clear.

  2. I always use this hemming tape for stuff like that. You just iron it on, and it sticks.

  3. You can still sew it pretty easily… just rip the inseam so you can attach the ribbon, then resew when you’re done.

    If you want to do it without sewing, though, I’d suggest one of the iron-on tapes like Steam a Seam or the lovely, lightweight narrow stuff from Vilene: Extra Fine Fusing Tape:
